HYDAC’s Stat-X filter technology is designed to reduce electrostatic discharge (ESD) in hydraulic and lubrication systems, helping to protect equipment, improve oil performance, and extend filter life. A Replacing conventional filter elements with Stat-X can increase the service life of hydraulic oil and filters by up to 20%.
Modern hydraulic fluids are increasingly formulated without zinc or sulphur additives and often rely on synthetic, ashless alternatives. Although these fluids provide environmental and operational benefits, they generally have lower electrical conductivity. As low-conductivity oils flow through standard filter elements, friction and charge separation can generate electrostatic charges within the system.
When these charges accumulate beyond a certain level, they can discharge suddenly in the form of sparks. This electrostatic discharge may lead to a range of operational and safety issues, including damage to filter elements, varnish formation in the oil, malfunction of electronic components, and in extreme cases, fire or explosion hazards within hydraulic tanks. External electrical flashovers may also occur, posing risks to operators.
To address these challenges, HYDAC developed Stat-X filter technology, which incorporates specialised filter media and element design to minimise electrostatic charge build-up. The technology is particularly effective in demanding operating conditions such as cold starts, high-flow systems, and applications using low-conductivity hydraulic fluids.
By reducing electrostatic discharge, Stat-X technology helps lower maintenance costs, reduce unplanned downtime, improve operational safety, and extend the lifespan of both hydraulic oil and system components.
